A collector and teller of stories; digitally compressed, sequenced, mixtures of light, song, poetry, and ancestral magic. K explores narratives that expand the conversation, voices, representations and perspectives told through new media, documentary and digital storytelling.  Creator of golden moments that flow in the traditions of the griots, teachers, philosophers and thinkers who engage arts-based activism to keep alive the promises of joy, justice, equity and freedom. 

 

Karyl-Lyn K Sanderson was born in 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia where they currently reside and manage a home based creative co-working studio for podcasting and video production.  K received a BFA degree from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, specializing in directing and editing.  With over 25 + years professional experience as an independent media content creator, advocate and strategist, K has worked to expand access to new media, marketing and video production services in their community while amplifying issues of importance.

 

Serving as a two-term Public Allie, K gained invaluable leadership skills that instilled a commitment to service and social justice which has rooted their career in community based activism, advocacy and movement building spaces. 

 

Through creative partnerships with cross sector supporters and stakeholders, K has initiated several note worth projects as media contributor assigned to high profile campaigns such as the Obama 2008 Presidential Election, Lets Move! CA, Caribbean Heritage Salute to Hollywood & Excellence Awards Galla, Black Mama Matter Alliance,  ATL Black Pride, Black Maternal Health Week, Women’s March, Black Girl's Day at the Capital and Black Midwives Day.

 

K has also independently produced creative media works and photography collections that have been exhibited at arts institutions such as The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Museum of African American Art,The Atlantic, First Run Film Festival, Fusion Film Festival, Pan African Film & Arts Festival, The Art of Birth Film Festival.
